In 2023, Media Matters for Women was recognized as a leader in the African feminist movement, presenting “Addressing the Unmet Information Needs of Africa’s Hardest-to-Reach Communities” at the UN Commission for Women NGO Forum and was honoured to present its fish farm project empowering rural village women at the Paris Peace Forum, both in 2023. During the Sierra Leone national elections in June 2023, it trained 150 Peace Ambassador in 6 Districts across Sierra Leone, helping to build communities that worked to reject the violence that has marred elections and politics in the area. MMW recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary of serving vulnerable rural women and girls in Sierra Leone.
